I've agree!
When I first saw DHL, I was sceptical, but I held on for a while. Then the first release of AHL2 completely overshadowed it and I forgot about it. Then the DHL beta was released, it was awesome, and it made me realize something: AHL2 is a great port, but it lacks the joy of creating something new. It lacks passion. DHL has this passion and the community here is a bunch of great guys who like to experiment and have fun, unlike those workaholics over at MoA who are really just trying to revive AHL's glory days instead of improving the game.
Long live DHL! |

Of course!
Passion is the fuel. I find this true, even if it's to spite someone who disallows one the oppurtunity. This fuels more passion.. when one succeeds despite the challenges thrown in their way by others.. the prize is so much better.
Remember:
It's the little people who matter the most.
Great job from a great team (especially Case, Skillet, Milkman, Ilkimys, WhiteEagle, SmokeyMcPot, ballistic, and etc. for rising to the occassion!)
I was wondering if I would ever live to see the day that DHL2 was finally playable and on the road to completion. Of course, things don't always turn out as expected, but it's nice to see that DHL2 is alive and kicking!
Keep up the good work.
Will be seeing you more often!
Even if it's behind the scenes.

Welcome to the forums Chris :>.
A casino map would be really cool. Unfortunately I don't have any time for
working on anything atm :<. |

The one and only.
Well, the one and only Taylor you're thinking of.

I'm thinking a casino with hotel and parking garage.
Problem is, a casino without lots of people is an uncommon sight. The real intended effect would have plenty of patrons and staff. And as far as I can tell, having that many NPCs would be rather difficult with HL2.
Would still be a nice project though, when I have more time I will get together with you and see what we can come up with. |

Taylor is back alive from the dead? :>
Lol, that would be awesome. A casino map where it starts with a lot
of npcs at the tables, gambling and stuff.... And in the end of the map
round.... all dead on the floor.
>.<
But I guess, a casion+hotel+parking garage all in one exceeds the dimensions
of a playable map. Except you make all parts very compact.
Maybe just the casino with security hallways for staff etc.. Sounds like a fun
map :>. |

Casino floor could be the first 1-2 floors of hotel, with attached parking garage. Not sure on the dimensions allowed with the source engine, but I'm thinking it could work if it's about 64x the space of a HL1 map.
We'll see.. |

You won't see anything unless you actually get the map "production" going ^^.
What's the size of a HL1 map?... x64 sounds a lot.. |

I didn't find what I was looking for, but this is useful information:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Dimensions
Oh, here it is:
"The maximum dimension are +/-16384 from the origin. That's 4x the size of original HL in each dimension for a total of 64x the cubic space of original HL."
http://www.halflife2.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-27687.html
Of course, as discussed on the page, the larger the map the less detail one can include in it. Even less detail for multiplayer maps.
I'm trying to calculate out how many square feet would be required for the project. If 16 units equals a foot.. it looks like a max of 2048 square feet for the base? Something doesn't seem right about that? If so, HL2 might not be able to handle a casino+parking garage.. unless they're really small. |

The size of maps you can build in Source are gigantic. You could easily pull off a casino floor with a garage and add the whole rest of the hotel on top.
That would be completely unplayable flow-wise, of course. |

That's what I thought..
I have a couple of ideas on how to tackle the flow issue..
Since it isn't going to replicate any casinos that I am aware of (though some design elements may share similarities with casinos I've been to) .. I can design the layout with flow in mind.
If I'm going to get a casino map done, however, I will first need to start with some smaller map projects. |
